The latest published studies provide revealing data concerning the growing importance of the Spanish language in the world. With 470 million native speakers, Spanish is the second most spoken language after Mandarin Chinese.

Between 2000 and 2011, the use of Spanish on the Internet has increased over 800%. And, with almost 20 million students studying Spanish at the moment, its importance in the future is clear.

Considering the above mentioned data, Spanish as a second language has become one of the most attractive languages in the student environment. Therefore, the teaching of Spanish is a highly researched discipline that is growing rapidly along with the evolving academic needs.

The Instituto Franklin-UAH, aware of the new challenges faced in the teaching of Spanish as a second language, offers a forum in which to reflect on the advantages of teaching a second language in its natural environment.
